Soaping Plants and Baking Bread...

Well, between VBS and my bout with food poisoning (oh, and I might have lost my camera for a few days too...gasp)...some of you might be wondering what I was up to...well, I'll tell you...
I've been soaping plants. Yes, there is nothing that kills little spider mites and such as well as sudsy soapy water. No joke...we've tried all that awful stuff that keeps you from letting the kids outside for days...and the soapy water works just as well, or BETTER.
PLUS, it's just jolly good fun! The idea is to pour it and suds (LOTS AND LOTS OF SUDS) on the troubled areas...such as spider webs or eaten leaf parts, etc.
Oh, and I made bread....*sniff sniff* AHHHH! It was a half whole grain loaf...yummo!!

Food poisoning, Ugh. I was just saying to my hubby today that I never enjoyed VBS. Two of my kids loved it and the other hated it. I don't like crowds and VBS always was crowded. I was just thinking about trying some suds on our plants. I am getting tiny ants eating our eggplants and weird creatures eating our red peppers. Don't know if it would work on those. But I might give it a try today. Someone else told me to put salt in the cracks of a sidewalk, patio etc to keep weeds from growing--I started to try that , but then I want the moss to grow on my patio so I stopped!

My Grandma told me about soaping plants...something she's done for years. Any dish detergent will work. I use a five gallon bucket...a generous squeeze of soap in the bottom and high pressure water from the hose. SUDSY! Grandma's theory is that the soap suffocates the bugs...so make sure the suds get all over the web or most infected parts...I then drench the entire plant with the remaining sudsy water. Loverbrains even tried this in the hose defuser when we had chiggers a few years ago...and it worked great!!
