Hunker Down Hodgpodge

Brrrr....I'm hunkered down under a quilt writing with just my fingertips....happy hodgepodge!
1. It's  been said that one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day. Do you think that's true? Do you find that an easy exercise most mornings? What's something positive you told yourself today? If you missed that boat, what's something positive you could tell yourself tomorrow?
I think that remembering Who God is will keep me focused in the right (and positive) way.  When I take my eyes (and thoughts) off of Him and put my focus on worries, circumstances, the world, etc. I'm going to be full of negative feelings and bound to sin.  I've really been enjoying reading a great book called Praying the Attributes of God by Ann Spangler...and it definitely helps the focus of the day.
2. There will be karaoke at the next party you attend...are you in? Or will you be faking a sore throat?
If they have songs I know...I.am.SO.in!
3. January 29th is National Puzzle Day...what's something you've found puzzling recently?
Why is it such a struggle for schools and groups to make good decisions regarding closing for inclement weather?  The weather is a no brainer...obviously not safe.  How could it possibly take a moments struggle to extend a school year or risk frostbite...cancel a mtg or endanger volunteers and attendees?  Really?  I'm puzzled that this is found puzzling.
4.  Jigsaw, crossword, acrostic, logic, sudoku, word search...what's your favorite kind of puzzle, and when did you last work one?
Crossword.  Sadly, I don't often give myself the luxury.  I do buy a new Dell Crossword book as a present for myself each summer for vacation.
5. Recently a writer by the name of Amy Glass ruffled feathers with a post she wrote saying she looks down on young women with husbands and kids and she's not sorry. Among other things, she says women will be equal with men when we stop saying house work and real work are equally important. You can read the whole piece by clicking here.
What say you? Do you think men and women are equal in the 21st century? Why or why not?
Poor Amy.  I wonder what her mother is/was like.  Was Amy not cared for, loved, nurtured that she feels this angry, bitter and nasty...not to mention intolerant...of the choice of young women to choose a life path with eternal dividends, rather than earthly ones.  That being said, we Domestic Engineers, need to be validated by God...and when we truly are...posts such as these will bother us less...and we'll be more open to love the lost, hurting and confused.  On a hilarious note...read I Feel Sorry for Amy Glass and I'm Not Ashamed.
6. What's a product you've noticed in the grocery store that you'd like to try, but haven't yet?
I've always wanted to try those little cheeses in the red wrapper...they have neat commercials and look yummy....but alas...I am cheap.
7. The author, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll) was born this week in 1832 (January 27th).  Which character from his celebrated novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, would you most like to meet, and why? Here's a link to a character list if you need help on this one.
The Mad Hatter or the March Hare...I enjoy frustrating people...all in good fun, of course!  HA!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I have never spent so much time being thankful for power and a warm home.  God is good and we are truly blessed.  Brrr. -35 F windchill today!

Tune Tuesday: Faithful...

There's distance in the air
And I cannot make it leave
I wave my arms round about me
And blow with all my might
I cannot sense You close
Though I know You're always here
But the comfort of You near
Is what I long for
When I can't feel You
I have learned to reach out just the same
When I can't hear You
I know You still hear every word I pray
And I want You
More than I wanna live another day
And as I wait for You
Maybe I'm made more faithful
All the folly of the past
Though I know it is undone
I still feel the guilty one
Still trying to make it right
So I whisper soft Your name
Let it roll around my tongue
Knowing You're the only one who knows me
You know me
When I can't feel You
I have learned to reach out just the same
When I can't hear You
I know You still hear every word I pray
And I want You
More than I wanna live another day
And as I wait for You
Maybe I'm made more...
Show me how I should live this
Show me where I should walk
I count this world as loss to me
You are all I want, You are all I want
When I can't feel You
I have learned to reach out just the same
When I can't hear You
I know You still hear every word I pray
And I want You
More than I wanna live another day
And as I wait for You
Maybe I'm made more...
As I wait for You
Maybe I'm made more...
And as I wait for You
I'm made more faithful.

Monday Musings...

I'm going to start by sharing a few Stray Thoughts from Barbara today...

By far the most balanced piece about Introverts and Extroverts in the church.  Thank you!!!
Her-menutics--HERE!

And the post by Kristen that made me think of Proverbs 14:1, "The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down"...Let Your Husband Love You...and her follow up after the nastiness that followed...That Time I Went Viral: A Clarification.

Then, at church I've been hearing a bit about Creeds so this post about Why Millennials Long for Liturgy was very interesting!

Here's one of those blogs I go to when I want to get away.  I love turquoise...HERE!

I have been fighting off a cold for a few weeks now...it'll come up all achy, tired, stuffy...I'll slather on the essential oils and do the neti pot.  Then, I feel great for a day...and then go through the routine again.  SIGH!  I will win this fight...I will!

This winter has everyone surprised...even though we were told it was coming.  More snow than normal...and waaaay colder than normal.  BUT...it's the prettiest winter I've seen in Indiana...EVER!!  Gorgeous sunrises and sunsets...glittering white snow...and a lot of gratitude for the blessings of a cozy home and sweet family.

Sew Saturday: Pillow!

I had one of the those days where there was nothing I was working on that I could share...baby quilts a plenty...and I wanted to just produce something...complete something! So, I made up the "No measure, Slash Dash, Scrappy Pillow." I made up the name too.

I made two of these...
Cut and sewed it once to get this...Cut again and swapped...
Swapped again...and once more after this picture...
Put a border of red hanky fabric...stuffed....Voila!
I know, not the best tutorial in the world....Sorry.  Not really expecting anyone to try this.  I guess my point is that sometimes it's okay to just sew...and make something truly scrappy!!

Thursday: Nice, but nope! #2

Oh, that's an interesting phrase...huh...but yeah, I'm pretty sure that's not in the Bible. Nope actually, not. Oh, really...you're sure it is? Could you show it to me? You think it's "somewhere in the middle"? Hmmmm...

As I begin to go through my list of biblical misquotes I want to gently remind ya'll...THINK.  Search it out...look.  Seek...find!  Be kind.

God helps those who help themselves.
Here's what I found out about the origins of this saying...

A clear quote from Aesop "Hercules and the Waggoner"...Aesop lived from about 620–564 BC. A more contemporary provenance and one which matches the common wording identically comes to us by way of Benjamin Franklin (Poor Richard's Almanac, 1736). Franklin himself was a deist and so he believed that God did not play an active role in men's lives. In his point of view if man was not able to help himself, then man was hopeless.
I've been personally confronted by this one before.  And heard of someone saying that they thought it was somewhere in "the middle" of their Bible.  Sigh...The Bible teaches something entirely different than the old saying, because God makes special provision to help the helpless.

Romans 5:6,8
For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly....But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Proverbs 28:26
He who trusts in his own heart is a fool,
But he who walks wisely will be delivered.

Jeremiah 17:5
Thus says the LORD,
"Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
And makes flesh his strength,
And whose heart turns away from the LORD."

That being said, God does speak out against laziness though.  I wouldn't be wanting any of ya'll thinking I enjoy the "hand out" thang we've got going in this here United States right now. Here's a few verses I found on that...(and there's LOTS more)...

2 Cor. 3:10
If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.

Provers 21:25
The craving of a sluggard (lazy person) will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work.

Personal Life ApplicationWithout Jesus, I am powerless, weak and helpless.  How wonderful to be reminded of a God who has provided for a world full of hopeless sinners by sending Jesus...Hope for the nations...Salvation!  This great love I have for him...and gratefulness for being hauled out of the pit...should get me moving.  I would be a fool indeed not to be working out my salvation with fear and trembling.  Faith without works is dead!  I'm praying I trust him more...grow in faith...and walk worthy of his call on my life.

In the next few weeks I'm going to look into some others for Thursday's Nice, but nope!  It's a fun blogging activity...and hopefully enriching as well.  Here are some I have gathered thus far...

Cleanliness is next to godliness.
God helps those who help themselves.
Moderation in all things.
To thine own self be true.
Pride comes before a fall.
This too shall pass.
God works in mysterious ways.
Money is the root of all evil.

Brrrrr Hodgepodge!

 1. It was decided on Sunday the Denver Broncos will meet the Seattle Seahawks in this year's  Superbowl. So when was the last time you bowled? Not where you thought this question was going is it?  Do you like to bowl? Are you any good?
I love to bowl but sadly haven't been for years.  I guess the kids are old enough now to enjoy that...hmmmm?  Thanks for the idea.  No, I'm not very good...I was in high school.  I was even on a bowling team my Junior year.  HA!  Use it or lose it.
2.   Should sports stars be role models?
Well, maybe not good role models (for the most part)...but, as I tell my kids and those I watch...you are being an example, so be a good one.  Be kind.
3. January is National Oatmeal month...are you a fan? How do you like your oats?
I love oatmeal but find it doesn't stick with me that long.  Probably due to too much sugar on top!  My favorite use of oats is in blondie brownies....then you can tell yourself they're healthy.
4. What is one book on your reading list for 2014?
The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches By Alan Bradley....If you've never read this series (read it in order starting with Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie) they are so interesting....dry humor, very British...they follow an 11 year old girl, Flavia DeLuce through mysteries involving her family and little village.  They always end on a cliffhanger...
5. What would you like your future self to say to your present self?
Be faithful to Jesus...Everything will be just fine.  You are in His perfect care!
6. When scrolling through the TV guide, what is one movie title that makes you want to stop, grab the popcorn, and watch for a while?
I'd like to see Saving Mr Banks...especially after Jo's review.  I love Mary Poppins...
7. What are two style trends you hope never come back into fashion?
Poofy bangs and animal print tights.  I've done both...yeah, some things should only happen once.
8.  Insert your own random thought here.
This winter...sigh...I've had enough.  After an elongated winter break with bitterly cold temps I wasn't super excited about having Monday off.  Sorry MLKJr.  And now...Tuesday....more snow, more cold...and NO SCHOOL.  Argh!  My kids are going nuts...

Monday Musings...

"Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep."  Romans 12:15

A hard truth.  I've been thinking about this so much lately I'm wondering if I've already written on this before.  I don't have time to check the archives...so you'll have to bear with me, Dear Void.

So, I am cheering and rejoicing and doing cartwheels with a friend who's journey down infertility has ended.  I'm picking out fabric and deciding on a baby quilt pattern to show her my joy!  I rejoice with her as she rejoices.  I wept with her as she wept. Both came quite naturally.

And yet, I have another friend who's journey down this same road continues.  And for every such happy announcement she puts on her happy face and forces herself to rejoice with the rejoicer...while her sadness continues.  And it's easy to weep with her as she weeps.

But, there are other situations that make this a hard truth to learn and apply.  I often say my pride and selfishness know no bounds.  I long to do great things for God.  I struggle to embrace the obscurity He has so snugly assigned to me.  I prayed for years to be sent on an adventure of a lifetime...to allow us to switch countries for my husband's work...to evangelize in ways our status quo American family has never had an opportunity to do before.  And while the answer came back a firm "NO...Stay."  The answer for a dear friend came back "GO...now!"

And God said...."REJOICE WITH THOSE WHO REJOICE."  And, I obey.

And he teaches so gently....why His nos for me are as wonderful as His yeses for her.  His plans for ME are perfect...and ALL His ways are best!  He will give me rest as He quiets me with His love!

The Lord your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.
Zephaniah 3:17

A call I thought He might be placing on my life to shepherd through Biblical counseling...much prayed over and researched...became a realization of a bigger mandate...a something that could be done through my own personal Bible study and not further classes and education.  And as I struggled with His answer being different than my expectations...He again told another sweet friend to "GO, DO...now!"

And God said..."REJOICE WITH THOSE WHO REJOICE."  And, I obey.

Not because it's easy...but because I'm slowly learning that the more I obey...the more I see WHO He is...in my life and in His perfect glorious plan for the world.

God is Good!  God is good all the time.  All the time God is good.

Thursday: Nice, but nope!

Oh, that's an interesting phrase...huh...but yeah, I'm pretty sure that's not in the Bible. Nope actually, not. Oh, really...you're sure it is? Could you show it to me? You think it's "somewhere in the middle"? Hmmmm...
I've begun collecting biblical misquotes or quotes that are thought by many to be Scripture but are not.  Many will swear to you that they are...and often they are gravely in error of what the Bible actually DOES say.  That is the only reason I really care.  Frankly, most of the time I say nothing.  And I'm not encouraging anyone to go correcting these misquotes in others...but I am encouraging people to THINK.  Search it out...look.  Seek...find!  Be kind.

Cleanliness is next to godliness.

Well, I'm all for being clean.  I really wondered where this saying got it's origins.  Not in the Bible.  While looking about, I found this neat tidbit:

CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS - "This ancient proverb is said by some to have come from ancient Hebrew writings. However, its first appearance in English - though in slightly altered form - seems to be in the writings of Francis Bacon. In his 'Advancement of Learning' (1605) he wrote: 'Cleanness of body was ever deemed to proceed from a due reverence to God.' Near two centuries later John Wesley in one of his sermons (1791) indicated that the proverb was already well known in the form we use today. Wrote Wesley: 'Slovenliness is no part of religion.'Cleanliness is indeed next to Godliness.'" From "Morris Dictionary of Word and Phrase Origins" by William and Mary Morris (HarperCollins, New York, 1977, 1988). There are a couple more details in "Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings" (1996) by Gregory Y. Titelman (Random House, New York, 1996): ".According to the fourteenth edition of 'Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable,' it is an old Hebrew proverb used in the late 2nd century by Rabbi Phinehas ben-Yair. First attested in the United States in the 'Monthly Anthology and Boston Review' (1806). The proverb is found in varying forms."

The book of Leviticus does deal with the issue of cleanliness and impurity so that Israel would be clean as a sign of separation from the surrounding nations.  But the New Testament points out cleanliness in relation to the cleansing of the believer's life.

1Jn. 1:9  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
John 15:3  You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
2 Cor. 7:1  Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Jms 4:8  Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Eph. 5:26-27  So that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.

Personal Life Application:  More important than my outside cleanliness (or my stinky kid's)...is the condition of the heart.  Oh, what a beautiful opportunity to ponder the wonderful washing ability of the sacrificial blood of my Savior, Jesus.  There is no sin He cannot forgive!  If I am loving God with all my heart, soul and mind, I will be confessing my sins...in all its disgusting grossness...and He will wash me CLEAN.  I'm praying that I will not run from confession of sin but that instead God will show me my YUCK...so I can be rid of it and closer to Him!

“Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool."  Isaiah 1:18

In the next few weeks I'm going to look into some others for Thursday's Nice, but nope!  It's a fun blogging activity...and hopefully enriching as well.  Here are some I have gathered thus far...

Half Way Hodgpodge

1.  Are you a force to be reckoned with? In what way?
I can be very driven and focused on the task at hand.  I hope I'm nicer than I used to be...but it is a challenge to not push things and people to the side when trying to move something (an event, routine, etc.) forward.  It might be all in how you deal with people.  Hopefully, I've gained some tact.  Those I've moved to the side abruptly might feel I'm a force to be reckoned with...and not in a good way.
2. What are two things you love about the wintertime? Or, if love feels like too strong a word, what are two things you 'like' about winter?
1.  When the snow covers each tree branch and it sparkles a bit.
2.  When I'm cozy inside looking at it!
3. Pomegranate, kumquat, persimmon, kiwi, and guava are all fruits said to have health benefits, particularly during the winter months. Do you have a favorite on the list? Are there any on the list you haven't tried?
I've never had kumquats.  I like pomegranate but what a pain!  I'll go with kiwi as the favorite on this list.  The fuzzy, green and sour strawberry!
4. I passed a local church yesterday and noticed they had this on their outdoor sign- 'When all else fails, do the right thing.' Your thoughts?
Perhaps we should attempt to do the right thing all the time...and way BEFORE all else fails!?
5. Do you ski? According to one list I've seen, the top 5 ski destinations for 2014 are-St. Anton Austria, Whistler Canada, Cortina Italy, Tahoe USA, and Zermatt Switzerland.  Of the five listed, which would you most like to visit? We can make skiing optional if that helps the non-skiers with their answer.
I ski splendidly...on my backside.  So just purely as a vacationer...I'll go with Austria.  I like the Sound of Music!!
6.  What's the last thing you looked for online? (Besides my blog!)
A recipe I'd pinned on Pinterest for Chorizo and Kale soup.
7. What saying, slogan, quote, or motto have you seen lately that inspires you for the new year?
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might."  Deuteronomy 6:4-5
8.  Insert your own random thought here.
There are times I find it irritating to be female.  Those times you know your hormones are well, raging, and you also know that you DO NOT want them dictating your behavior.  Ugh....It's hard to go against what my sinful nature wants to do.  No more excuses...nasty is nasty.  PERIOD.  (Pun intended.)

Tune Tuesday: Hungry.

Hungry, I come to you
For I know You satisfy
I am empty, but I know
Your love does not run dry

So I wait for you
So I wait for You
I’m falling on my knees
Offering all of me
Jesus, You’re all this heart is living for

Broken, I run to You
For Your arms are open wide
I am weary, but I know
Your touch restores my life

So I wait for you
So I wait for You
I’m falling on my knees
Offering all of me
Jesus, You’re all this heart is living for

Monday Musings...

In no particular order...

Being cooped up in the house, due to the Polar Vortex, for almost a week made me realize that I am a hopeless extrovert...sigh.  No way around it.  I like to think I've seen the value of alone time and recharging...of considering my words and all those other introverted virtues.  But, I was almost ready to start screaming...GET ME OUTTA HERE!  Of course, now that a full week of "normal" approaches I'm beginning to rethink my eagerness.

Why when painting do you get done...all cleaned up and furniture back in place...only to discover that the one bit of trim that needs touched up is the highest and least accessible in the house.  Ugh.  Oh it's the job that doesn't end...yes, it goes on and on my friends...

I decided I'd review the Shema each morning in 2014.  “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might."  I find it eerie how you never notice things until you begin studying them.  Then suddenly, they pop of everywhere.  It was even mentioned in the sermon today...and I almost fell off my seat.  Incidentally, very interesting how it's connected to creeds of the early church, etc.

I love listening to my kids play together.  You know, when they are playing and not picking.  It's so cute.  I'm glad, that for the most part, my kids are good friends.  I love that they can mix army men and pink ponies...legos and jewelry...and just enjoy each others company...and the imaginations God gave them.  I love the unplugged times!

Sew Saturday: Sweater Mittens

I have the worst time finding mittens for Lubby Boy. They sell gloves for kids...not mittens. Why? Gloves are really hard to put on AND they don't keep their hands as warm. Soooo...I delved into the sweaters I love to upcycle. I'd made him a pair this way before...and I learned a few things. FIRST...Use the ends of the sleeves and make them deep...so they don't unravel and they cover part of the arm and won't come untucked.
PIN the SNOT out of it! This stuff shifts everywhere if you don't. Sew around it at least TWICE!
Have the kid try on the first one...
...before you move on to the next one!!  VOILA!

Friday Foto & Freebie!

Sadly, this is courtesy of my iphone...but what a beautiful sunset.

After an incredibly elongated Christmas break...I came across this acrostic on Pinterest...handwritten...and so I typed it up and made it look schnazzy, printed it and put it on my fridge. Then, I thought I'd share it with ya'll.

Thought-filled Thursday!

I'm not going to share all my thoughts on this today...but I enjoyed making this verse beautiful and printable for ya'll.  This is so comforting as a reminder on my fridge...He who promised is faithful....He who promised is faithful...

Hello Hodgepodge!!

1. Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English.  Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse or just general uselessness (go here to read more about how the words were chosen).  Here are the words/phrases they'd like to see banished in 2014-
selfie, twerk/twerking, hashtag, Twittersphere, Mr. Mom, T-bone, ____on steroids, the suffixes-ageddon, and -pocalypse added to anything and everything, from the world of politics the words-intellectually/morally bankrupt and Obamacare, and from the world of sports the words-adversity and fan base
Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word not on the list you'd like to add?
I know that I tend to say...actually....a lot.  I should actually probably work on that...cutting it out, replacing it with other words.  I don't like selfies...might as well say 'multiple narcissistic pictures of ME'!  Ugh...twerking...really...that's even a question?
2. What one unfinished project nags at you begging to be completed in this new year?
I'm painting for the first time in 8 years...since we moved into this house.  I've done two coats Pecanwood on the kitchen, two coats Pecanwood on the upstairs foyer, one coat No.2 Pencil on the stairwell...and now on to the half bath Pecanwood, living room and dining room in Brandied Pear.  Woot woot...I'm a lady on a mission.  And no, I'm not coming to help you...sorry.  I hope not to paint anytime soon after this crazeeness!
3. When did you last have a bowl of soup? What kind? Homemade or from a can? What's your favorite soup?
Due to Indiana's Polar Vortex I've been a soup making fool.  I made bean and ham soup from scratch with leftover frozen ham bone from Christmas.  I made Chicken in Road Soup (black bean and chicken soup).  And I made Chili!  My favorite soup...my Mom's Potato Soup.  I don't ever make it because of the non-dairy peoples in my home.  Hmmm...I suppose I could make it and freeze it in portions.
4. Snowed in, snowed under, snow job...which one most applies to your life in recent days, figuratively speaking.
Snowed in.  I think I haven't been out of my house for five days...that's a lot for us city dwellers.  And let's just say...this extrovert has had it.  Let me outta here!!!  If it wasn't for social media and txting I'd be CRAZZEEEier than normal!
5. What's the funniest movie you've ever seen, or at least one of the funniest?
The Princess Bride.
6.  In general, would you say you're clumsy?
No, I'm not usually.
7. Elvis Presley was born on Hodgepodge Day (January 8th) back in 1935.  Are you an Elvis fan?  What's your favorite Elvis tune? If that's too hard, which Elvis tune do you dislike the least?  Click here for a list of his songs.
Um no...not a fan.  Dislike most...any Christmas song that he's done.  AWful!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Today I'm watching a friend's daughter (a friend of my daughter) because she had to return to work in this awful weather.  SO, I invited a neighbor buddy as a playmate for my son too.  I'm a bit nuts but I think I get good Mom and good friend points, right?  I'm praying for patience and lots of love.  Especially around lunchtime....the hardest part of any playdate!  I have minimal resources cuz I haven't been to the grocery in a while.

Monday Musings

I love those kinds of books that start each chapter with a quote that aids in unfolding the story.  Recently, while reading someone's journey through Myleofibrosis I stumbled over this chapter leading quote.

"Only a physician who believes in a potential power for healing that exists within his patient can treat his patient...In a sense the physician can be only the assistant to this power..."
~Earl A. Loomis

My initial thoughts were sort of along the grumbly lines of Doctors having Messiah complexes, etc.  And that this quote sort of is like the faith healers.  If you aren't getting better then you lack internal power (faith)...keeping your physician from drawing on said power and you are then therefore...doomed.

And then...I thought what a great comfort it was that I have a GREAT PHYSICIAN and Heavenly Father.  He walks hand in hand with me!

"He is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them."  Hebrews 7:25

He sees no great power or any goodness within me but He chose to love me anyway.

"For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.  For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—  but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."  Romans 5:6-8

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine."  Isaiah 43:1

...because He is all-powerful and Able to do more than we could ask or think!

"I know you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted." Job 42:2
"He performs wonder that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted."  Job 9:10

"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen."  Ephesians 3:20-21

My GP needs no assistance to HIS power.  But all physicians need His assistance to their human powers.  Such healing power comes not from the patient...but from the Almighty!

"But our God is in the heavens;  He does whatever He pleases."  Psalm 115:3
