Chiming in: We Rest On Thee...

Just the other day, my friend Barbara shared some of her Stray Thoughts on the movie The End Of The Spear, our true spiritual battle against the foe Satan and she shared the lyrics for "We Rest On Thee." It was the song the group of men (with Jim Elliot and Nate Saint) often sang together.

Being the song hunter I am...I immediately went a-hunting. Truthfully, I was hoping for a good Tube Tuesday. I didn't find a video per se but I did find a great acapella recording video. My mind thinks back to the last night these men sang this song together. Most likely, it probably wasn't this gorgeously harmonious...but...it was a sweet savor to God.

I read Through Gates of Splendor last year...and if you haven't read it...don't wait any longer. It's one of those perspective giving things...like I was saying last week. I'm with Barbara...why don't we sing this song at church? I'm gonna ask. Easy guess, it's probably not in the hymnal.

I was looking for a You Tube video of this but didn't find one. I guess I didn't look long enough! This sounds exactly like the version I hear on the radio, and I love that it is all men's voices, because it makes me think of those five men. I don't know why this isn't in hymn books. I am going to add this video to my post.

I don't know how many times I have read Through Gates of Splendor, and I hope to read it again. I also recommend Steve Saint's (Nate Saint's son) book End of the Spear. It was really neat to hear what had gone on with the tribe and various people connected with them over the years.
