As I mentioned Friday...the kids helped me pick a whole bunch of our neighbor's crab apples. After cleaning, etc...there was really about 1 bucket of good usable apples out of the two. Sigh.
They were great helpers the day we picked them...
Today while making them...not so much...Both had a case of the super whines...and that, added to the fact that I've never done this and feel sort of freaked out with tons of boiling hot gloppy liquids about...
...added up to a HOT, stressful...CRABBY jelly making time...
All together...I'll have 8 1/2 pints of crab apple jelly. It looks really pretty...but like I crabbily told my Mom on the phone...
"If it doesn't set up...I'm NEVER doing this again!"

well did it set up?
No, and I’ve had such a lousy day. The kids have been precocious and took a ridiculously short nap...during which someone called me that I couldn’t get off the phone. Argh.
Now what? I guess, I dump it all. I can’t very well give runny pretty supposed to be jelly, huh? I know technically you can reboil, etc. but the very thought makes me cry angry tears.
Hmm, it didin't set up....I think I would put some unflavored geletin in it---My daughter has those days. It is hard too if you don't get the rest you need!
It sure is pretty though! Too bad it didn't set. Someday you'll try it again. Love, Mom D
Obviously it is not supposed to be jelly... it is supposed to be crab apple syrup to put on your waffles. I'll bet it is GREAT for that.
I sure hope you’re serious about that Dad...cuz you’re getting some for Christmas!
No don't dump it. Call it "couli" and it is a fabulous sauce to go over ice cream.
It could also go into slices like coconut jam slice....I have a recipe.
I let mine fall this year saying I was not sure if they were ok for jam making ha ha...... and now I have none.
Hey...those look good as decoration in your kitchen or cupboards if nothing else.
I am sure you could probably also use them in a trifle.
After all it will be a trifle in a years time and you will chuckle.
