Advent is upon us...

Okay...I know we're all gearing up for Thanksgiving...and not to change the subject...but a week from today, on Nov. 29...it's the first Sunday of advent.

Advent: The liturgical period preceding Christmas, beginning in Western churches on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and in Eastern churches in mid-November, and observed by many Christians as a season of prayer, fasting, and penitence.

A new idea for this year is using Handel's Messiah. I borrowed a book from my Pastor's wife called...Handel's Messiah Family Advent Reader. It had a lot of history info and gorgeous pictures. She also had a book called (haha) The Advent Book. WOW...just gorgeous...an artistic door to open each day...with great scriptures!!

Here's a link to Joanne...The Simple Wife...and her advent reading bookmarks.

We always want to celebrate Advent and never seem to prepare properly, it's always upon us and too late before we know it, and we say, "Next year." I know it's coming up and I need to plan what we'll be doing in the next few days. I hope that while everyone else is out shopping and I'm recovering from turkey I can make some plans. I'm definitely going to print out Joanne's link. That will be beneficial.
