Word FILLED Wednesday: Keep Calm...

I have really loved the whole KEEP CALM sign craze.  There's "Keep Calm and Drink Coffee"  and "Keep Calm and Just Pray"  and "Keep Calm and Carry On" but as always...God really says it best!

As I was studying this week...I knew I just had to try making this verse fit into that kind of graphic.  Pretty neat!  Now, if I just knew how to make it into a t-shirt or mug...I'd be in business!  HA!

In case you are wondering about context here...these are words from God, through Isaiah...to bad King Ahaz.  God was reminding AGAIN...that He is a God who keeps His promises.  Judah's enemies were saying they were going to destroy them for their refusal to ally against Assyria.  They threatened to kill Ahaz and put a "puppet king" on the throne.  NOW, if Ahaz had feared God and trusted in HIM...he would have KNOWN that God made a promise that David's line would NEVER, EVER go out!  "Does not the Scripture say that the Christ will come from David's family and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?" John 7:42  But, Ahaz...he was wicked...and made a secret alliance with Assyria.

End result...they had to be punished for their "trying of God's patience"(Is.7:13)....God sent a sign IMMANUEL...to remind them (God with us) as they went through destruction and captivity...that HE was God and HE was to feared...and that HE would always keep promises.

JESUS is the fulfillment of that promise.  Praise God, we were grafted into that salvation!  I'm so glad my God is a the ONLY ALMIGHTY GOD ...and He keeps His promises!

Sidenote:  This super challenges me to be a consistent parent.  Very often, even after I have warned my children, they choose to deliberately defy me.  I must discipline them...and teach them to obey.  I must keep my promises...in punishment, in reward.  I must be faithful!

Well, talk about bracing yourself! I think I need to brace MYSELF before I visit you!

Beautifully written and oh oh so true. I'm studying Isaiah right now as well and all this king stuff blows my mind. We really are the same people as they were back then and I'm still blown away by those who say the Bible is just a history book and not applicable to our world today.

Great post, Bobbi!

Your side note is so so true. As a Prep teacher from way back the first term was always the most stressful...goes for all grades really but especially preps where it is a case of whose word is law and it is a matter of lasting them out in the battle of wills....while not killing that will, just bending it to obedience....giving it flexibility....lol.

LOVE Isaiah! And you're right, God says it best, always!

I also appreciate your sidenote about parenting . . . oh, so true! Consistency and persistence: so important, yet so difficult.

I like the graphic and it would make a good one for a T-shirt and/or mug. You just might be on to something, Bobbi. Interesting side note. Hadn't ever thought about it like that but that's true. Blessings to you.

Neat graphic, indeed! LOL, whenever I see "Keep Calm" I think of Ivars, our local seafood restaurant's ads... "Keep Clam!"

Yes, win every battle with your kids now, and they will be a joy and a pleasure in their teens!

I gotta laugh...it's been a TOTALLY crazy day...got in laws coming into town tomorrow! I'm heading out to Bible Study and thought I'd try and visit a few faves, just to prepare my heart and BANG, BAM, POW...this just hit me in the heart...just may have to print it as a reminder how God meets us RIGHT where we are!

Loved it! You ministered today!

peace,
lori

I love that graphic! You might check out Cafe Press -- they make t-shirts and I don't know what all else with images you can upload. If you make a coffee cup, I'll buy one!

Love the rest of your notes, too.

On the last about parenting -- Practical Theology For Women has an interesting post on Gospel-centered parenting at http://www.theologyforwomen.org/2010/10/gospel-centered-parenting.html. There is one little part I don't agree with, but otherwise I thought it was excellent.

This is great Bobbi! I was just reading those verses in Isaiah early this week. Love the pairing of the verse and that sign...I like the keep calm craze too ;)
