The words, by Vernon Charlesworth are still great. Turns out the words were originally set to a weird minor tune...and the fishermen would sing this song as they came into port...but Ira Sankey created the more singable version we all know and love today.
The Lord’s our Rock, in Him we hide,
A Shelter in the time of storm;
Secure whatever ill betide,
A Shelter in the time of storm.
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A Shelter in the time of storm.
A shade by day, defense by night,
A Shelter in the time of storm;
No fears alarm, no foes afright,
A Shelter in the time of storm.
The raging storms may round us beat,
A Shelter in the time of storm
We’ll never leave our safe retreat,
A Shelter in the time of storm.
O Rock divine, O Refuge dear,
A Shelter in the time of storm;
Be Thou our Helper ever near,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

Singing His Word is so awesome.
I love it when that happens! When a scripture reminds us of a song we love and sets a great tone for the day. He is our Shelter, our Rock.
"On Christ the solid Rock, I stand, all other ground is sinking sand . . . "
That is a gorgeous picture! I love the book of Isaiah... full of beautiful imagery and wonderful promises.
Have a blessed WFW!
I was singing the chorus before I got to read the first verse.
I regret so much that many of the glorious old hymns are lost.
We will not remember the contemporary ones so well as they have such a short shelf life.
It is the hymns that I will sing on the desert island...hiding near a Rock.
I do it all the time, singing scripture. I loved when I was a teenager and starting to really delve into the scriptures for myself and I would come across a scripture that had been turned into a song we sang at church, and think, wait a minute, I didn't know that was in here!
Yes, I sing as I'm reading...and studying.
God must seriously laugh...:)
In fact today it's a Sanctus Real song..."whatever you're doing" It's one I could have written myself.
I imagine Isaiah would have sung it too...the ups and downs of being a Prophet...
I love your transparency Bobbi!
Awesome as always!
peace,

Yay for Isaiah! Back to BSF? I just signed up too, and we start next week. Can't wait!
(((Hugs)))
Beautiful picture and great WFW! Thanks for sharing it!
Love the photo (waterfalls are soooo refreshing). Knowing the Lord is our shelter in the storm gives me peace.
Blessings,
Janis
