WIW: Excerpts...

p233 Animal, Vegetable, Miracle Barbara Kingsolver

"People who are grieving walk with death, every waking moment.  When the rest of us dread that we'll somehow remind them of death's existence, we are missing their reality."

"The rules for marriage are the same as for a lifeboat. No sudden moves, don't crowd the other person, and keep all disastrous thoughts to yourself." ~Garrison Keillor

Seen on A Holy Experience
“God is looking for people through whom He can do the impossible.
What a pity when we plan only the things we can do by ourselves.” -A.W. Tozer
I re-read one of my favorite stories of all time...Hannah Fowler by Janice Holt Giles...and had to share a snippet with you... p. 155

She bent nearer and looked into the baby's face...."Listen, close, an' I'll tell you.  They's times when I look at yore pa, mebbe when he's jist settin' by the fire, or mebbe eatin' his stew, or mebbe feedin' stock out at the barn, or mebbe even lyin' asleep--they's times when I look at him an' the heart in my bosom swells up till it feels like it's goin' to bust wide open...jist crack an' run down inside of me...jist on account of I'm so purely proud he's my man.  I could jist sink down from the weakness inside of me, knowin' he's mine an' I'm his'n.  That's the way I feel, sometimes, like my bones had turned to jelly, an' a shiver had run up my back an' made me have cold-bumps all over my arms.  That's what love makes you feel like, Janie Fowler.  That's what it makes you feel like.  But, law..." She laughed and her voice trailed softly off and she sighed, " hit'll be a time an' a time afore you're old enough to know."

Where do you find all these cute coffee photos?

These are all good. Sometimes we need to slow down and take to enter another's grief. to "weep with those who weep."

Love the Keillor quote about marriage!

And the Tozer quote -- sometimes I only want to do things that are comfortable and within my reach and unpressured -- and I can't even do that without Him -- yet when He really shows forth His power and grace is when He puts me in those situations outside my natural ability and comfort zone.

I had never heard of that last story bu I love that sentiment.

(Mark 10:27 NKJV) ¶ But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”

All things are possible with God, but attempting them sometimes feels suicidal.

Love all your quotes again. The first one about grief really hits home. When I’ve been grieving something, I usually feel BETTER when someone else brings it up. It makes me feel that they care and understand where I am. I try to assure them that I was thinking about the loss anyway; they’re not reminding me of something I wasn’t already thinking. Great quote. I'll pass it along.

Oh, I especially loved that last one... like reading Shakespeare... takes a minute to get into the rhythm of it. A beautiful tribute to any husband.
