Hunker Down Hodgpodge

Brrrr....I'm hunkered down under a quilt writing with just my fingertips....happy hodgepodge!
1. It's  been said that one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day. Do you think that's true? Do you find that an easy exercise most mornings? What's something positive you told yourself today? If you missed that boat, what's something positive you could tell yourself tomorrow?
I think that remembering Who God is will keep me focused in the right (and positive) way.  When I take my eyes (and thoughts) off of Him and put my focus on worries, circumstances, the world, etc. I'm going to be full of negative feelings and bound to sin.  I've really been enjoying reading a great book called Praying the Attributes of God by Ann Spangler...and it definitely helps the focus of the day.
2. There will be karaoke at the next party you attend...are you in? Or will you be faking a sore throat?
If they have songs I know...I.am.SO.in!
3. January 29th is National Puzzle Day...what's something you've found puzzling recently?
Why is it such a struggle for schools and groups to make good decisions regarding closing for inclement weather?  The weather is a no brainer...obviously not safe.  How could it possibly take a moments struggle to extend a school year or risk frostbite...cancel a mtg or endanger volunteers and attendees?  Really?  I'm puzzled that this is found puzzling.
4.  Jigsaw, crossword, acrostic, logic, sudoku, word search...what's your favorite kind of puzzle, and when did you last work one?
Crossword.  Sadly, I don't often give myself the luxury.  I do buy a new Dell Crossword book as a present for myself each summer for vacation.
5. Recently a writer by the name of Amy Glass ruffled feathers with a post she wrote saying she looks down on young women with husbands and kids and she's not sorry. Among other things, she says women will be equal with men when we stop saying house work and real work are equally important. You can read the whole piece by clicking here.
What say you? Do you think men and women are equal in the 21st century? Why or why not?
Poor Amy.  I wonder what her mother is/was like.  Was Amy not cared for, loved, nurtured that she feels this angry, bitter and nasty...not to mention intolerant...of the choice of young women to choose a life path with eternal dividends, rather than earthly ones.  That being said, we Domestic Engineers, need to be validated by God...and when we truly are...posts such as these will bother us less...and we'll be more open to love the lost, hurting and confused.  On a hilarious note...read I Feel Sorry for Amy Glass and I'm Not Ashamed.
6. What's a product you've noticed in the grocery store that you'd like to try, but haven't yet?
I've always wanted to try those little cheeses in the red wrapper...they have neat commercials and look yummy....but alas...I am cheap.
7. The author, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll) was born this week in 1832 (January 27th).  Which character from his celebrated novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, would you most like to meet, and why? Here's a link to a character list if you need help on this one.
The Mad Hatter or the March Hare...I enjoy frustrating people...all in good fun, of course!  HA!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I have never spent so much time being thankful for power and a warm home.  God is good and we are truly blessed.  Brrr. -35 F windchill today!

Babybel cheese. It's ok and probably not worth the money in my opinion.

I love the Babybels : ) I used to send them in my girl's lunchboxes. I am trying not to overindulge in cheese these days, one of my personal food weaknesses! Stay warm!

I agree about closing schools for "dangerous" weather. But it is interesting that the definition of dangerous has changed over the years. Back in the old days they closed school for snow only if it fell at the last minute and couldn't be cleared in time to run the buses. The danger they perceived was the danger of traffic accidents. We sometimes had snowfall that was a foot an hour and even then they often had school with some delays.

I don't remember ever having school cancelled because of cold temperatures - but I do remember having whole weeks where the temperature never broke zero. Why didn't they think that was dangerous in the old days? If it was too terrible I would sometimes get a ride to the bus stop and wait in the car - but usually I walked the 1/4 mile out and stayed warm by stomping and pacing.

I just wonder what it is that makes us see it differently these days?

It has been a super cold week here, too, and I have been so glad for heat and for not losing power.

Wow, I hadn't heard about that Amy Glass article. I'm going to have to let thoughts about that simmer for a few days. It's so odd people like that don't acknowledge that they are setting up class distinctions as well as shooting themselves in the foot about gender equalities. Does she have someone do her housework, or work in filth? Does she regard the cleaning lady or the person at the dry cleaners as lesser beings, or just stay at home moms? I agree that there will always be people out there with those kinds of views, and we shouldn't let it discourage us from what God has called us to, but sometimes you just want to rip the scales from their eyes. I guess only God can really do that, though. :-)

I've never done karaoke - it would just depend. Some times I might feel free enough to participate, some times not.

I probably should try Sudoku just to exercise that part of my brain. I tend more towards word things, but games more than puzzles. I play a few word games with my sisters on our phone apps, and that's fun.
